‘On a Summer’s Day’, 2022-present

Bill’s goal is to write, produce and present his play called “On a Summer’s Day”.

Stage 1 of Bill’s program consists of 2.5 hour in-person weekly workshops that take place at St. Kilda Library, that aim to:

  • Build, develop and refine skills in the craft of writing for theatre by exploring script development methods to refine structure and narrative, character and dialogue.

These sessions support William to organise information and ideas, improve language and communication, critical and creative thinking and his overall confidence to author an original dramatic work of high standard.

Through the process William has the opportunity to learn and understand other roles that are inherent in live theatre and build leadership and decision-making skills when defining or engaging in these roles.

  • Produce & present a live play-reading to invited family, friends and guests

Weekly sessions provide William the opportunity to assemble and work with a cast of community actors, prepare staging and design ideas, plan rehearsals and present his play-reading to an audience of peers, producers and friends, who can also contribute their friendly and constructive feedback.

Through this process Bill will learn about coordinating an event, leading a small production team as well as his actors, be involved in the management and marketing of the showing and build confidence in public-speaking and creative leadership.

Stage 2 of Bill’s program aims to attract additional arts funding that will allow Bill to further develop his work and present it within a professional setting and context where all creatives involved, especially Bill himself, will be renumerated for their talent, work and time.
